US diplomat Richard Holbrooke, the US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, has died after undergoing a second round of surgery to treat a heart condition, a US administration official has said.
Holbrooke was admitted to George Washington University Hospital in the nation’s capital on Friday after he became ill. He had surgery on Saturday to repair a torn aorta.
