China probes tainted blood scandal

A government health official wants a probe into China’s AIDS epidemic of the 1990s.

A former Chinese government health official is calling for an investigation into a tainted blood scandal, which he says infected more than 100 thousand people and killed at least 10 thousand.

For years, hundreds of people have protested over the tainted blood scandal and official attempts to cover it up.

China’s HIV and AIDS epidemic of the 1990s which is believed to have been caused by medical workers who had collected blood from poor villagers using dirty needles.

Al Jazeera’s Azhar Sukri reports.
