Police clash with drug gangs in Rio

Police in Brazil say they have pushed members of a powerful drug gang out of the sprawling Vila Cruzeiro shantytown in Rio de Janeiro following six days of deadly gun battles.

At least 44 people have been killed and many gang members have now fled into a neighbouring shantytown, as police continue their crackdown on drug gangs in the city.

Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo reports from Rio de Janeiro.
