Haiti storm threatens quake camps

Haiti is bracing for Tropical Storm Tomas, which threatens to wreak havoc on many fragile and crowded earthquake survivors’ camps in the poor Caribbean country.

Authorities have told more than a million Haitians to leave the flimsy tent camps, where they have been sheltering since January’s earthquake.

The powerful storm was expected to drench the island on Friday, which would also most likely worsen a deadly cholera outbreak in the country.

Jean-Max Bellerive, Haiti’s prime minister, told Al Jazeera that the government is doing all it can to provide aid and better shelter to the most vulnerable, but he said it simply does not have the resources to help many of them.
