The US president has said that he and his party took a “shellacking” – meaning a very sound beating – in the US midterm polls.
Speaking on Wednesday, Barack Obama could barely contain his disappointment. His Democrat party has lost control of the lower House of Representatives, winning 185 seats to the Republicans’ 239, with 11 seats still to be decided.
