Acceptance eludes China’s gays

Being homosexual has long been legal, but attitude to same-sex partnership has been slow to change.

Being gay has been legal in China for more than a decade, but that does not mean life is easy for those who choose same-sex partners.

Homosexuality was removed as a crime in 1997 and taken off the list of mental illness in 2001. The pressure to marry and produce male offspring, however, remains huge.

As Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett reports from Shanghai, attitudes are slowly changing.
