Traffickers exploit Myanmar’s poor

Thousands of people crossing into southern Thailand have become victims of a booming trade in human trafficking.

Thousands of people in Myanmar have fled to neighbouring Thailand in a bid to escape grinding poverty and extremely harsh life under repressive military rule.

Now many of them are being picked up and told they will be deported back to Myanmar.

But the journey they are forced to embark upon has an unexpected, and often tragic, end.

Al Jazeera’s Aela Callan reports from Ranong in southern Thailand.
