Karzai opens peace council session
Afghan panel tasked with bringing about talks with Taliban holds first meeting.

Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, has inaugurated the first session of the Peace Council, which includes former members of the Taliban.
The idea is to explore possibilities of speaking to some fighters who may be willing to give up their weapons.
