China proposes to buyout Greek debt

Premier Wen says his country will purchase Greece’s bonds to pull EU out of economic crisis and boost ties with region.

China has offered to buy Greek government bonds to help pull the euro zone out of its economic crisis.

Wen Jiabao, China’s prime minister, made the offer before Greece’s parliament on Saturday at the start of a two-day visit to the country.

But his offer, which seeks to boost ties with Europe, has also called into question China’s own financial policies.

Gerald Tan reports.
