Indonesia’s mentally ill ‘neglected’

Cases of neglect and abuse are rampant as archipelago struggles with limited resources.

Mentally ill patients in Indonesia are often seriously neglected and in some cases abused.

It is partly because there are not enough hospitals and facilities with the expertise to treat them.

But as Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from Pandeglang in West Java, it is also caused by a lack of understanding and sometimes fear of the disease.
