Moscow’s new mayor settles in

Sergei Sobyanin takes over from Yuri Luzhkov, who was fired for criticising Russia’s leadership.

Moscow''s new mayor

Moscow has a new mayor, following last month’s dramatic sacking of the old one.

The Moscow parliament has appointed Sergei Sobyanin, a close aide of Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, to the post.

He takes over from long-serving mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who was fired for criticising Russia’s leadership.

Al Jazeera’s Laurence Lee reports from Moscow on what the change will mean for the Russian capital.
