Ethnic tension clouds Kyrgyz vote

In the run-up to Kyrgyzstan’s parliamentary elections set for Sunday, ethnic tension has re-emerged, just months after unrest between the country’s Uzbek and Kyrgyz communities.

In the southern city of Osh, billboards promoting candidates stood aside posters of those missing and dead following the June violence that killed around 400 people – mostly ethnic Uzbeks – and destroyed hundreds of homes.
