Al Jazeera has obtained images which appear to show weaknesses in a reservoir dam at an aluminium plant in Hungary.

The pictures were taken by the advocacy group the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) back in June, more than three months before a spill at the plant released huge amounts of toxic waste.

The area highlighted in the photographs is not the portion of the dam that gave away. WWF also said that the reservoir seems unusually full, even before the autumn rains.

Despite the company that owns the plant claiming that the dam has since been made safe, the gap in the walls is still very clear.

As the clean-up process got under way, more bodies were found in the affected area.

Al Jazeera’s Anita McNaught has the story.
