Afghan parliament challenges Karzai

Legislators reject president’s cabinet picks, as Karzai makes rare visit to Helmand.

Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan’s president, is facing a new challenge to his ability to rule after parliament members rejected 17 of his new cabinet nominations.

The vote on Saturday came as Karzai made a rare visit to the country’s Helmand province – a Taliban stronghold in the south.
