Breakthrough could improve crop yields currently under threat from climate change.
Scientists in the UK have mapped out the genetic code for wheat -which they hope will lead to the development of better and more plentiful crops.
The code will be published on the internet for free, in order for companies to begin working on wheat varieties which are resistant to disease and better able to cope with climate extremes.
The scientists argue it could lead to better food supply security.
