French police demolish makeshift camp for immigrants amid violent protests.
French riot police have clashed with campaigners protesting against the forced closure of a huge migrant camp near the coastal town of Calais.
The camp, known as ‘The Jungle’, was used as a base for illegal immigrants trying to enter the United Kingdom.
Police and bulldozers moved into the camp at dawn on Tuesday.
More than a hundred children were among the migrants. It is not clear what will happen to any of them.
