Video: Diamond mine poverty in CAR
Central African Republic one of the planet’s poorest despite vast diamond reserves.

With a population of just over four million people, the Central African Republic (CAR) is one of the planet’s poorest countries – a plight made worse by the global economic downturn.
CAR’s poverty exists despite rich reserves of two of the world’s most sought after commodities – uranium and diamonds. However, little, if any, of the proceeds filter down to workers, who have to get by on a few dollars a day.
