No formal charges have yet been levelled against Roh, who left office in February last year.
Supporters gave Roh a warm send-off, waving yellow balloons and roses, with some scattering flowers on the road ahead of his bus as it departed.
Almost every South Korean president, who was not forced out of office or assassinated, has faced corruption allegations after stepping down.
