Bangladesh’s disappearing island

Experts say sea level rise could have Bhola island under water in 20 years.

As the climate summit in Copenhagen battles to overcome deep divisions on cutting global emissions, one place already being hit hard by the affects of climate change is Bhola island in southern Bangladesh.

The island is being swallowed by the sea as water levels continue to rise and experts say at the current rate it could disappear in 20 years.

Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports on the plight of its climate change refugees.
