Guantanamo trials anger New Yorkers

New Yorkers protest Obama’s decision to put Guantanamo detainees on trial in civilian court.

Hundreds of people have gathered in New York City to protest against a plan devised by the US administration of Barack Obama to try five Guantanamo detainees in civilian court.

Those due to go on trial include Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, the self-professed mastermind of September 11 attacks.

The decision has divided families of the victims. While some say it is right that the trial be held in a civilian court, others believe the men should be tried as war criminals.

Al Jazeera’s Kristen Saloomey reports.
