After 12 years as the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohammed El Baradei is leaving the UN nuclear watchdog.

He has had a tumultuous stint, investigating whether Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction at the beginning of his tenure to the recent challenges faced by Iran’s disputed nuclear programme.

As he prepares to step down, the jury is still out on whether El Baradei managed to make the world a more safer place.

Mohammed Vall reports on the challenges faced by the Nobel Peace prize-winning chief during his time in office.
