A long-awaited inquiry into Britain’s role in the US-led Iraq war is set to begin in London.

The inquiry’s chairman has said he is confident of producing a “full and insightful” account of the decision-making process that took Britain into the conflict.

Proceedings are expected to culminate with Tony Blair, Britain’s prime minister at the time of the Iraq invasion in 2003, taking the stand.

Al Jazeera’s Tim Friend reports on the inquiry, which could prove embarrassing to the former Blair government.
