Coal ash sparks protests in Alabama

Residents of one US town in the state of Alabama protest dumping of coal ash.


A small community in the US state of Alabama is protesting the dumping of millions of tonnes of coal ash at a landfill site not far from their homes.

And because the area has a largely African-American population, the issue has become entangled with US race relations.

The people of Perry County told Al Jazeera’s Cath Turner about their concerns.
