On the eve of the inauguration of Hamid Karzai for a second term as Afghanistan’s president, the country’s failed election has only served to solidify opposition and sharpen the focus on corruption.

Karzai’s main rivals assert that the election was fraudulent, while the people have not had a government that works for them for decades.

Amid calls from the international community that Afghanistan must undertake dramatic political reform, James Bays reports from Kabul on the widespread loss of faith in the country’s political processes.
