Scores die in El Salvador storm

Thousands left homeless after Hurricane Ida sweeps Central American nation.

El Salvador’s government has declared a state of emergency after parts of the country were devastated by torrential rain and landslides.

Emergency crews are digging though the debris in an attempt to find survivors, while representatives from the Red Cross and United Nations are meeting to co-ordinate relief efforts.

Scores of people have died and thousands have been made homeless.
