Video: Mai Lai atrocity ‘fading’

US-Vietnam relations have changed drastically since the Mai Lai massacre in 1968.

My Lai massacre

More than 40 years after the massacre by US troops of villagers in Mai Lai in Vietnam, the only soldier convicted over the atrocity has apologised.

About 500 villagers were shot, mutilated and raped by American soldiers from Charlie Company in the early morning of March 16, 1968.

Survivors of the massacre say the apology was “too little and too late”.

But for Vietnamese youth, the war is part of history.

Al Jazeera’s Laura Kyle visits the village, where much has changed regarding feelings towards the US.
