Video: Literacy aid for Bedouins

One man attempts to educate nomadic Bedouin tribes in a bid to combat illiteracy.

The United Nations is marking International Literacy Day as new figures from the organisation show about 75 million children are currently not receiving any kind of schooling.

Estimates suggest 82 per cent of the world’s population is literate, but this means 18 per cent – or more than one billion people – are illiterate.
In the Arab world, Jordan is among the most literate states, but among the nomadic people such as the Bedouins, illteracy is still high.
Nisreen El-Shamayleh reports from Al Jafr on one man’s efforts to bring about change.
