Romanian police protest over pay

Officers rally in capital complaining of unpaid overtime and political corruption.

They also said cuts were undermining public safety and pressure from political parties on senior police officers was hampering investigations.

Rancu said a total of 50,000 hours of overtime had not been paid.

The government recently announced plans to cut 20 per cent from the salaries of public sector workers as it tackles the country’s economic crisis.

Local media said the protests will continue until August 21.
