Turkey bombs northern Iraq
Cross-border offensive targets separatist Kurdish fighters in Arbil province.

Kurdish rebels, fighting for independence since 1984, have been seeking autonomy for Kurds in southeast Turkey.
Turkey has carried out several cross-border raids into Iraq in recent months in pursuit of Kurdish fighters.
Ankara says Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has several bases in northern Iraq and has vowed to target them.
PKK has been blamed for several attacks on Turkey and is considered a terrorist organisation by both Ankara and the US.
