Li Zhaoxing, the Chinese foreign minister, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to meet Pranab Mukherjee, his Indian counterpart, for discussions on increasing air links and the easing of visa rules between the world’s two most populous countries, an Indian foreign ministry official said.

Li and Mukherjee, were also expected to discuss a boundry dispute that led to a border war in 1962, the official said.

A formal ceasefire line was never established after the war but the border between China and India has remained mostly peaceful after agreements were signed in 1993 and 1996.

Last year, during a visit by Hu Jintao, the Chinese President, the two sides agreed to give priority to a resolution of the border row.

Li and Mukherjee will be joined by Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, on Wednesday.
