England’s partners get tongues wagging

The antics of the England team’s wives and girlfriends are causing as much interest in the nation’s tabloid press as the team.

Talk of glamorous shopping sprees and expensive nights out has made for great copy for the dailies that are renowned for their prying eyes.

The “WAGS” (wives and girlfriends), as they have been dubbed aren’t hard to miss with their fake tans, stiletto heels and designer handbags.

The group is staying at the $1,800 per night Brenner’s Park Hotel and their every action seems to be captured by the paparazzi lenses.

“They swilled drink, smashed glasses, roared raucous chants and belted out bawdy sing-songs,” declared the Daily Mirror.

The bill for such nights out are apparently thousands of dollars after bottles of Moet champagne are followed by glasses of vodka and Red Bull and shots of Sambuca.

The shopping sprees have also been detailed.

German daily Bild said six of the women, including David Beckham’s wife Victoria and coach Sven-Goran Eriksson’s girlfriend Nancy Dell’Olio, spent $101,000 dollars in one hour in the town’s boutiques.

The women blew $5,500 in 10 minutes alone on shoes and T-shirts, with the rest going on items by designers Dolce and Gabbana, Prada and Versace, according to the report.
