Kurds blamed for Turkey attack
A bomb has killed at least three people and injured 14 others in the Kurdish-dominated southeast of Turkey, the Anatolia news agency has reported.
Authorities were investigating whether a suicide bomber carried out the attack in the southeastern city of Van, bordering Iran, the state-owned agency said. Kurdish rebels were suspected of being behind the attack on Thursday.
The blast near a supermarket killed two people in a car, one of them a police officer, and killed another person nearby, Anatolia said. The blast also shattered the windows of several other vehicles and nearby houses and businesses.
Police and paramilitary security forces were deployed at the site.
On Monday, suspected Kurdish rebels killed four police officers in an ambush near the southeastern city of Batman and detonated a bomb under the car of a military officer in the town of Idil in Sirnak province. The bomb attack injured one.
Fighters of the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, have recently stepped up their attacks in the region, while Kurdish militants believed linked to the outlawed group, which wants autonomy, have carried out several bombings across Turkey during the past month.
The fighting has killed more than 37,000 people since 1984.
