Pakistan tests new missile

The test comes a day after the US Congress approved a nuclear deal with India.

This military handout picture dated 09 December 2006 shows the Pakistani short-range ballistic missile Hatf-III or Ghaznavi missile, being fired during a test at an undisclosed location in Pakistan.

The test came a day after the US House of Representatives approved legislation allowing shipments of civilian nuclear fuel to Pakistan’s nuclear-armed neighbour, India.

Critics says the nuclear deal between Washington and New Delhi could trigger an arms race in South Asia.

Pakistan became a declared nuclear power on May 28, 1998, when it conducted underground nuclear tests in response to those carried out by India. It tested its first missile the same year.
