“We have attacked Guereda, fighting is continuing,” a spokesman for the RAFD rebels, Yaya Dillo Djerou, confirmed, reached by satellite telephone.
Rebels of this coalition last Saturday occupied Biltine and Am Zoer, south of Guereda, but withdrew two days later towards the frontier with Sudan.
Djillo Djerou said the rebel coalition was fighting both Chadian army troops and members of the Justice and Equality Movement [JEM], a rebel force from the Darfur region across the border in Sudan.
The RAFD, led by the twin brothers Tom and Timan Erdimi who were once close to Deby, and the UFDD of former defence minister Mahamat Nouri have both said they do not work together, though they have been in contact.
