Thailand’s military leaders used the perceived conflicts of interest between Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister, and business interests, as a pretext for the coup.
Activists say that the recent appointments could undermine the military’s claims that it is intent on fighting corruption.
Surayud Chulanont, the military-installed prime minister, has brushed aside the criticism, saying the appointments followed normal and fair business procedures.
