Israeli missile hits Gaza building
An Israeli helicopter gunship has fired at least one missile at a building in Gaza City, Palestinian security sources have said.
There was no immediate word of casualties after the strike on the Zaytun neighbourhood although black smoke billowed into the sky.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli occupation army, which has frequently killed Palestinian resistance fighters in air strikes during almost four years of Middle East violence.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have occupied more strategic positions in the besieged Gaza Strip town of Bait Hanun.
Bait Hanun operation
Troops, backed by tanks, poured into the heart of Bait Hanun in the early hours of Sunday, said witnesses and Palestinian security sources.
Both sides reported exchanges of gunfire and a 25-year-old
Palestinian man was in a critical condition in hospital with bullet wounds to his chest, medics said.
Troops have effectively sealed off Bait Hanun since late last
month. Israel says the siege is part of efforts to stop resistance fighters from using the town as a launch pad for attacks on the nearby Jewish settlement of Sderot.
Under international law, all Jewish settlements are illegal, a stance not recognised by Israel.
An Israeli military source said: “There are troops in several additional locations in Bait Hanun,” adding there had been no casualties among the soldiers.
