Bomber targets Israeli checkpoint
A Palestinian has blown himself up at a checkpoint near the West Bank town of Qalqilya, injuring up to three Israeli soldiers.
The bombing occurred near a recently-built tunnel that links the Habla area to Qalqilya.
Aljazeera’s correspondent said the occupation army opened the tunnel less than two weeks ago to prevent Palestinians from Qalqilya or Habla from crossing streets used by settlers in that area. He said three soldiers were injured.
Israel radio said the bomber, who was on bicycle, detonated the bomb next to an occupation jeep at the crossing, wounding two soldiers.
The Fatah movement’s al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Israeli forces have closed off the area and are conducting search operations at nearby farms, the correspondent reported.
Raid
Meanwhile, more than 15 Israeli military vehicles raided the Nur Shams refugee camp in the West Bank town of Tulkarim.
A bulldozer also entered the camp, Aljazeera’s correspondent said.
The raid, which began in the early hours of Tuesday, comes as a complete closure on Tulkarim enters its third day.
All roads linking Tulkarim to other West Bank cities have been closed off by military checkpoints.
Hundreds of Palestinian workers and school children cannot pass through these checkpoints, the correspondent said.
