Environment Minister Mishkat al-Mumin survived an attack on her convoy while travelling through the southern Baghdad neighbourhood of Qadisia on Tuesday morning.

Four of her bodyguards were killed and three others were injured.

Aljazeera has also learnt that another explosion occurred near the home of Iraqi Education Minister Sami al-Midhfir.

Roadside bomb

A police spokesman said a roadside bomb exploded as a convoy of vehicles was headed to pick up the minister in the western Baghdad district of al-Khadra.
The education minister was not in the convoy at the time of the attack and was not wounded, the spokesman said.

The blast killed one of al-Midhfir’s bodyguards and wounded two others, he added.
