Three Iranians hanged for trafficking

Three Iranian men have been hanged in a Tehran prison for drug smuggling.

Islamic Republic imposes death sentence for a number of crimes

The men were arrested a year ago in the western Tehran district of Karaj, and charged with carrying 16kg of heroin en route from the eastern city of Zahedan near the Pakistan border, reported a government sponsored daily on Sunday.

They were executed on 21 August.

The state news agency IRNA reported that an Iranian man had also been hanged on 19 August in Kerman jail, southeast Iran, for drug trafficking and heading a gang.

Tehran imposes the death penalty for a number of offences, including murder, rape, armed robbery, heavy drug trafficking, blasphemy and apostasy.
