Nine suspects arrested for Jakarta bombing
The Indonesian police have arrested nine people for suspected involvement in the recent explosion at Jakarta’s Marriott hotel, which killed 12 people.
Announcing the arrests on Sunday, Indonesia’s police chief, General Dai Bachtiar, said five of the nine arrested were also suspected to have been linked to previous bombings in the country.
“Some of the five were also suspects in the Bali nightclub blasts last October which kiled 202 people,” the police chief said.
Refusing to name any of the detainees or share details of when and from where they were arrested, Bachtiar said the police were on the look out for more people.
“There are still several other people that we want to arrest,” he said.

The latest spate of arrests follow last week’s arrest in Thailand of a prime terror-suspect called Hambali.
Hambali, alleged to have been al-Qaeda’s pointman in Asia and the operations chief of Jemaah Islamiyah, is blamed for the Bali and Marriott blasts.
The United States has taken Hambali into custody and is holding him at an undisclosed place.
Bachtiar said a team of Indonesian police officers had been readied to question Hambali, but his present whereabouts was not yet known.
Meanwhile, a Korean newspaper reported that three of the Bali bombers had assembled the Marriott bomb.
The Korean Tempo quoted the lawyer of an arrested Bali-bombing suspect as saying that her client’s accomplices had made the bomb that ripped the Marriott hotel.
