21 tea workers killed in Indian arson attack

Twenty one tea garden workers have been burned to death in an arson attack in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal.

The attack occurred north of Calcutta in West Bengal

Police said more than 100 people set fire to a union leader’s house in Dalgaon estate, following a dispute over the recruitment of clerks.

Police inspector general Chayan Mukherjee said 106 people had been arrested after the incident. The estate is about 700 km (435 miles) north of the state capital, Calcutta.

No further details are available including why so many people were in the union leader’s house.
