Baghdad blasts wound US troops
At least four US soldiers have been wounded in the latest resistance attacks to strike the heart of the occupation authority in the Iraqi capital.
Four loud explosions, apparently caused by rocket fire, shook central Baghdad around 19:45 (18:45 GMT) on Tuesday, said Aljazeera’s correspondent.
Three targeted the main US compound located in the former presidential palace complex in al-Karkh district of Baghdad.
Four US soldiers have reportedly been wounded in the compound attacks.
“A fourth rocket was launched at the US base in al-Mahdiya quarter in al-Dura district,” said Aljazeera’s Biba Wild Mahadi. “Between 20 to 50 US vehicles were deployed to the scene of the explosion.”
Car bomb
Eyewitnesses said a car bomb had detonated in al-Saydiah district, he added.
The attack comes hours after a soldier with the US-led occupation force was killed in Baghdad and a second wounded after a device detonated next to them. The solider’s nationality was not immediately identified.
Earlier, US military officials announced that an American soldier had been killed and another wounded in the northern Iraqi town of Tikrit on Monday.
