According to Palestinian security and medical sources, Imtiyaz Abu Ras, 38, was hit by a bullet in the neck during the raid early on Thursday morning on the West Bank’s largest town.
The incident occurred shortly before dawn when about ten Israeli tanks and more than 50 jeeps, backed by at least one helicopter, pushed into the area, provoking exchanges of fire with Palestinian gunmen.
Abu Ras was shot inside her home in Nablus‘s old city, the Casbah. Her nephew Rami Abu Ras told Aljazeera.net that Abu Ras was standing in her kitchen next to a window when an Israeli soldier fired at her, killing her instantly.
The army later pulled out of the old city without having made any arrests, the same sources added.
The latest death brings the overall toll since the outbreak of
the Palestinian Intifada in late September 2000 to 3592, including 2677 Palestinians and 849 Israelis.
