Demonstrators across the US have taken to the streets for a second day as protests against Donald Trump’s victory in the country’s presidential election turned violent.

In Portland, Oregon, an estimated 4,000 protesters chanted “We reject the president-elect!”, with some throwing objects at police, prompting several arrests.

In Washington DC, about 100 protesters marched from the White House, where Trump had his first transition meeting with Obama on Thursday, to the new Trump International Hotel several blocks away.

At least 200 people rallied there after dark, many chanting “No hate! No fear! Immigrants are welcome here!” and carrying signs with such slogans as “Impeach Trump” and “Not my president”.
