Snow comes to Europe

Parts of Europe receive snowfall as cold air continues its push towards the continent’s southern areas.

Snow continues to fall in many parts of Europe as cold air continues its unrelenting southward push.

Eastern Europe has been experiencing cold weather for many days, with accumulations of up to half a metre in parts of Belarus and western Russia.

The cold air is now combining with active weather systems to bring snow to more western areas, and the Alps are likely to see a very large fall of snow, as much as one metre on the northern side.

Such a large fall of snow so early in the season is likely to raise the risk of avalanches in coming days.

In the meantime, milder air is expected to make some inroads into western areas.
