After hundreds were killed on Wednesday, Egypt’s military imposes a state of emergency and curfew.

Egyptian security forces moved into two protest camps in Cairo shortly after dawn on Wednesday morning, firing birdshot, tear gas, and live ammunition.
More than 500 people have been killed across the country and more than 3,500 injured, according to Egypt’s Health Ministry.
In response to the recent bloodshed, Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei stepped down from office, and insisted that a peaceful solution between the protesters and the government was possible. Egypt’s military instituted a month-long state of emergency and a curfew.
The US did not initially criticise the overthrow of Morsi, and has avoided using the term “coup”, which under US law would have halted some $1.3bn in annual military aid to Cairo.
