Hakimullah Mehsud, the former leader of the Pakistani Taliban, was killed by a US drone strike on November 1. The death occurred on the eve of peace talks with the government.
Also on November 1, a man opened fire in Terminal Three in the Los Angeles International Airport. One Transportation Security Administration official was killed and a half dozen other people were injured during the shooting.
