China’s ruling Communist Party is holding its national congress.

More than 2,200 delegates gathered at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Thursday, November 8,  for the start of the week-long session that will install Vice President Xi Jinping as the party’s new general-secretary.

The meeting will witness the transition of the ruling party’s leadership to younger leaders.
