In Pictures: Turkish hopes

Esra Ela Ersoy, an activist, is looking to see implementation of human rights and democratic values. "Bans should be lifted, including the headscarf ban, because people of this country need to have equal rights and opportunities."

Mehmet Tarhan, a political activist, wants to see compulsory military service eradicated. "As a pacifist I refused the service and was imprisoned for 11 months for being a conscientious objector, and tortured."

Alper Alemdar, a student activist, wants to see the government working with - not against - the people. "The government is stealing from us and it is time we told them to stop," he says.

Dursun Atalay works in the tourism sector, and says the AKP has worked to improve road conditions, hospital waiting times, and familiarity with the country. "I don’t know why anyone wouldn(***)t vote for the AKP," he says.

Mehmet Unal, a campaign worker, would like to see greater freedoms for Turkey(***)s Kurdish minority: "There are 25 million Kurds living in this country, and Turkey belongs to everyone."

Adem Guzel, a taxi driver, has consistently voted for the BBP. "The projects they have are very good and in order to see them come to fruition we have to vote them into power," he says.
