At one point it had even appeared that the games would have to be cancelled [Reuters]
But after a last-minute rush, the games began on time and athletes have praised the facilities at the venues and at the village [AFP]
More than 6,000 athletes competed in 21 sports [Reuters]
The 11-day event ended on Thursday with a glittering closing ceremony [AFP]
